The former ABC Cinema in Lime Street, Liverpool is a Grade II listed building built in 1930 and opened a year later. It was designed by William Glen and Alfred Shennan. The Cinema closed in 1998 and since then has remained unoccupied.
The building achieved a listed status in 1981 due to its interior. The auditorium ceiling is flat with a central rosette feature and ornamental false boxes to the side.
Due to an outbreak of dry rot, UK Restoration Services was contracted to complete internal repairs. Chairs and timber work directly affected by the dry rot were stripped out.
The area was sprayed with Microtech Dual treatment, as per the manufacturer’s instructions, to treat the dry rot.
Plasterwork was removed to allow the area to dry out. Special care was taken around the mouldings ensuring they were protected.
