For the last few weeks, if you’ve been travelling down the A56 through Foulridge, in Lancashire, you might have seen a couple of hi-vis vests filled with workers working on a small but long wall on the side of the road. This will have been Del and Andy, tearing down and then rebuilding the stones as part of a lengthy restoration on the aged structure. It’s being rebuilt with a dry stone look but has a mortar core, made simply from cement and rubble to keep the wall restoration strong and sturdy,

The deviceful duo have just passed the 100-metre mark of restoration, working all the way up the Skipton Road and are working closely with the council to ensure that everything on and around the site gets completed with minimum disruption to the road and pavement. But give them a friendly honk if you drive past!

Just down that very road in the town of Colne, restoration work has begun on the Municipal Hall, sometimes referred to simply as The Muni. The tower at the top of the building is our area of interest, as timber repairs, raking out and re-pointing were all on the agenda for the job. The raking out has been completed and at time of writing the team are grouting along one of the tower sides most in need of restoration.
