35. Phil and team continue the Roof Capola restoration in Manchester. The team us a resin and stainless steel bars to bond the Pine timber posts of the Capola back together. The balustrade was glued into the posts as the whole framework was lowered on the sub-structure. We unfortunately didn't get any film footage of the leadwork going onto the dome, however we did get some of the leadwork on the lower deck. 35. Phil and Luke are on site working for the 2nd day in the heritage roof Capola in Manchester. We stripped the leadwork from the base of the Capola, we believe the lead to be the original when the Capola was constructed. Once the Leadwork has been removed we carefully removed the battens to reveal the rotten timber structural post to the Capola. All four structural post had rotten to a very dangerous level. The water had passed through the timber joints onto the post and allowed to decay the structural timbers. We cut away the posts which had a Tennon from the horizontal beams. 34. Phil takes this old RB10 heritage excavator to Euro Auctions. Our truck was loaded with the excavator early morning. The excavator is not working and it had to be dragged on and off thee trucks trailer. The jib section and bucket was loaded onto the hookloader truck. When arrived at Euro auction the excavator was unloaded by a telehandler. We then collected items of machinery we bought from the previous auction. 33. We are at Turton Tower Nr Blackburn, Darwen Bolton area of Lancashire. Phil is working on restoring the old main Oak entrance doors. Over the years the doors have need restoring. The iron hinges have collapsed and the ironmongery is rusty with no protective coating. Bad repair in the past have caused more damage to the Oak Doors. We used the welder to rebuild the door hinges as these had worn due to use. Timber door frame has decayed under the top hinges which needed a Oak Indent. The bottom two hinges had been cut off and loose. 33. How we Restore these 15th Century Oak Doors in 1 Day
Last day onsite at Ushaw. The chapel now has the temporary roof covering the historic building. The building is Listed Grade 2* and was designed by Pugin. Phil is onsite for the last day collecting the MEWP and Telehandler. We took a mini excavator to dig out a channel in the access road we installed. We also had to find an old water pipe and disconnect the old lead pipe. We loaded the truck with the MEWP, telehandler, excavator and a 2 ton concrete block. The chapel has a huge scaffolding round the building. 29. Part 1 - Historic Roof Cupola - Start of the Restoration in Manchester
Due to the unstable nature of this building we had to collapse the remaining roof section of this historic building. First job of the day was to rebuild the telehandler from arm. The Hydraulic ram had split on the welded seam. A few days before we had removed the ram and repaired in the workshop. The team then started work on the roof section that needed collapsing. We cut the roof truss timbers to help with the collapse. The roof truss was ridged with a rope so we could pull the roof truss over using an excavator. It has taken Electricity Northwest this long to disconnect the phone box from the main. We obtained the correct permits from Lancashire County Council. Phil collected the telehandler from the farm with the truck. A team arrived onsite and set up protection barriers. Then started working on removing the Phone Box foundations. We used lifting straps to remove the phone box from its original location. However, as we had to park the lorry at the top of the street. We need to reposition the straps and lay the phone box down. 14/12/2024 Phil is on the farmhouse project with some of the team. First job was to fix the Manitou. We had put a new starter motor on and had to get the dealer out as Phil was busying on other projects. The issues with the telehandler was the fuel pump needed replacing. After Phil installed the new fuel pump the telehandler started. The team was also sorting stone lintels for a huge retaining wall. We used the CAT excavator with the rotating grab to pick out the stones. 26. Fixing Manitou Telehandler & Sorting Stone for Retaining Wall Build
14/11/2024 We take a look into the chapel of this grade 2* listed building. The chapel was designed by Pugin. The building has been boarded up for the last 45 years when the chapel closed to the public. In 2023 a devesting fire to the chapel caused the roof to collapse. Our team of restoration specialists have been working on the building. We have been removing out burnt timbers off the floors. The team have now started removing the fallen plaster and slates. This historic nature of the building means the team of restoration experts have to be very careful. 07/11/2024 We are still dismantling the fire damaged building. Phil take another load of concrete blocks to the restoration site with the truck and trailer. We look over how many blocks are onsite and how they will be used for the kentledge on the scaffolding. We then left the camera with the team on site to record the rest of the video.
