UK Restoration Services has recently been awarded a new contract to conduct restoration work at St Oswalds Church Warton. Warton is located 20 minutes north of Lancaster.
There has been a church on this site for over 1,000 years. The current building has stood at the heart of the village of Warton and served the local population for over 600 years. The ruined remains of the medieval rectory survive next to the present vicarage to the west of the church. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.
Over the years the Church has had various work conducted including the construction of the tower in 1480. The tower construction was paid for by the local Washington family who were ancestors of the family of George Washington, the first president of the United States. St Oswalds Church attracts tourists because of this connection, which is commemorated on July 4th each year when the American flag is flown from the tower.
UK Restoration Services will commence work at the Church on 24th June 2019 for approximately 12 weeks. Works will include structural repairs to the gable wall, re-pointing and rendering. The Church will remain open throughout the the works.
